Anyone coming to mediation will first engage in a MIAM (mediation, information and assessment meeting) to tell the mediator about their situation and learn about the mediation process. There will also be a charge for any subsequent mediation sessions although we may be able to claim vouchers from the government to cover some of your costs. Since April 2024, the courts are encouraging people to try non-court dispute resolution methods instead of going to court to resolve disagreements over child arrangements or finances. The courts know that mediation is often a more effective way for parents to resolve their differences. It is also cheaper. Resolving an issue via mediation may cost a few hundred pounds, but going to court could cost thousands.
